About jobs
A job is a specific action performed on a set of files or collection. For example, when initiating the action to collect information from a source, you create a "Collect" job. As you move through the collection, process, and analyze phases, you run various types of jobs, including Collect, Process, Concept Wheel (Theme Wheel), Filter, Promotion, and Export.
A job can consist of a single task or multiple tasks. When a job includes multiple tasks, Epiq Discover processes those tasks independently and, when possible, in parallel. A job remains in progress until all associated tasks have finished processing.
During processing, the system may discover additional work and create child tasks. For example, when the system encounters attachments, it creates additional tasks to process those attachments.
When reviewing the Jobs tables, the number in the column reflects the number of tasks currently associated with the job. Because the system can create child tasks during processing, this number may change over time while the job is running. A job is complete only when all tasks, including any child tasks, have finished processing.
For jobs that include multiple tasks, the and columns in the table provide the most accurate measure of work still in progress. Keep in mind that the number of tasks may increase if the system creates additional child tasks during processing.
For single-task jobs, the and columns more accurately represent the progress. Report generation is an example of a single-task job.
The column is hidden by default to simplify the view. This bar most accurately reflects the status of single-task jobs and is less meaningful for jobs that consist of multiple tasks. However, you can manage which columns appear in the table by clicking the icon (
